BEPA and PGRO liaise regularly to produce a bi-monthly Pulse Marketing Update.

These updates aim to provide topical information relating to all aspects of the efficient and profitable marketing of home-grown pulses.

 Through the co-operation of the British Edible Pulse Association the following prices have been prepared to show farmers the likely value of peas and beans. 
 

Markets for pulses & crop production - Markets & Production table
Trade estimates indicate that the market for UK pulses is for about 1.43 million tonnes per annum, while the 2009 production was only about 0.65 million tonnes.  There is therefore scope for expansion to replace imports and develop exports for value-added products.  The range of pulse markets serviced by the UK trade, with an estimate of 2009 production, is given in the table.
 

BEPA have produced a very informative 8 minute DVD movie that takes you step by step along the dry harvested pea and bean's journey, from the time the pulses leave the farm, until they are ready for transportation to their final destination - the food market.
